Bolton summer signing shows 'exactly' what Ian Evatt thought Wanderers were bringing in

Ian Evatt believes summer signing Jack Iredale has hit the ground running at Bolton Wanderers since joining the club and the defender has shown exactly what his new club thought he would.

The 26-year-old was the club's first signing earlier this summer. He joined on a three-year-deal after departing fellow League One side Cambridge United on a free transfer.

Iredale was handed his debut over the weekend for the victory over Wycombe Wanderers. He came off the bench in last night's Carabao Cup win over Salford City.

Evatt is pleased with what he has seen so far from Iredale in a Bolton shirt and the strength in depth he has on the far left of defence with Declan John. He believes the defender has needed some time to get up to speed at his new club but has taken things on board well.

Evatt said: “Jack is exactly what we thought we were bringing in and he has hit the ground running since he has been here. We have Declan as well, so we are spoiled for choice a little bit.

“Things change quickly in football and sometimes you are one tackle away from an injury and a spell on the sidelines. We can only work hard to keep them all in one piece and then try to make the right decisions selection-wise.

“For now, I want to enjoy two good home wins and then get ready for Port Vale.

“It is different here than what Jack has been used to at Cambridge, so he has needed some time to get used to the intensity we train at, the level of detail we try to put into the players for their education. But he is an intelligent footballer who takes things on board.
