Bobby Motaung admits Champions League a 'wish' for Kaizer Chiefs as season ends without silverware

Kaizer Chiefs' football manager Bobby Motaung said going back to the CAF Champions League remains a wish for them as the reality of another failed season for the Glamour Boys sinks in.

Chiefs are away to SuperSport United at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday, with SuperSport in third place being four points ahead of fourth-placed Chiefs.

Chiefs need to win their final league fixtures by wide margins and hope Orlando Pirates, who host Sekhukhune United at the Orlando Stadium and are away to AmaZulu next week, don't win.

However, a loss to SuperSport will not only keep them at fourth, but at the mercy of Cape Town City, who host Richards Bay and play Chiefs next week.

Motaung, who represented his family club at the late Alex Shakoane's memorial service in Mamelodi on Thursday, seemed resigned to the fact the most popular and successful club in the country only has domestic football to look forward to.

If Pirates beat Sekhukhune in the Nedbank Cup final on 27 May and stay second on the log, the CAF Confederations Cup spots will go to Sekhukhune and SuperSport United if they remain third on 20 May.

"Going to the Champions League, for us, was a wish and we're wishing to go back," Motaung said.

"We're not ready yet as a club because of our young generation, so it helps us now to know that when we go, we'll be ready.

"We're serious about it, so we don't want to go
