The newly inaugurated board of the Nigerian National League (NNL), which is the second tier football competition in the country, has set up a five-man rules and regulations/club licensing committee to review its framework and enhance the operations of the league.

Rising from its inaugural board meeting on Tuesday, the NNL, headed by George Aluo, in a communiqué, said its members were mindful of the expectations of the parent body, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and the country’s football lovers, and promised to build a league everybody would be proud of.

While soliciting NFF’s support for the ‘most important league’ in Nigeria, NNL Chairman, Aluo said the board is determined to restore the true professional status of NNL.

According to the communiqué, “the board charged the chief executive officer to embark on aggressive sponsorship drive to secure credible partners for the league.

“The board agreed that only stadia that meet the required NNL stadium facilities criteria should be approved for the 2023/24 season. The secretariat was mandated to request all clubs to submit venues for their home matches.”

The communiqué drafted by Messrs Yakubu Shema (Chairman), Emmanuel Adesanya (Chief Operating Officer) and Nicholas Akujobi (Administrative secretary) also disclosed that the board has approved the 2023/24 calendar of activities, as well as 2023/24 league season budget as presented by the NNL secretariat.

It said that the board proposed a meeting with the leadership of Club Owners Association, while directing that the relegation playoff is concluded before the end of July.
