BMW crushed by street light as police hunt driver after smash

A BMW was obliterated after being ploughed into a street light in south Manchester on Tuesday afternoon (February 14). Police closed off Wilbraham Road after the crash, in Whalley Range, shortly after 4pm.

Dramatic pictures from the scene show the white BMW with a completely crushed bonnet after the crash. The street light appears to have toppled and landed on the roof of the car, smashing the back window.

Fire crews were also called to the crash as well as officers from Greater Manchester Police and helped to secure the scene, with no injuries reported. The driver fled the scene.

“One fire engine from Withington station quickly attended the incident, which involved a car colliding with a lamppost.

“Firefighters helped make the area safe before handing the scene over to Greater Manchester Police. GMFRS crews were in attendance for about 45 minutes.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the collision involved a car and a lamppost. The force has been approached for further details on the crash.
