Blue Jays ace Dylan Cease undergoes MRI, won't make next start - ESPN

The Toronto Blue Jays have scratched Dylan Cease from his next start as they await the results of an MRI on his pitching shoulder to determine if and when the right-hander will pitch again this season.

Toronto manager John Schneider told reporters that Cease has been dealing with a shoulder issue for the past few weeks that includes a decrease in velocity.

«Just wanted to see, with the [velocity drop] and if there's anything tied to that,» Schneider said. «Not expecting anything crazy.»

Cease had been scheduled to start Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles. Depending on the MRI results, Schneider said Cease could still be an option for the Blue Jays' final regular-season series against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Blue Jays (76-79) entered Sunday three games behind the Chicago White Sox (79-76) for the final wild card in the American League. Toronto has a 4.7% chance of making the postseason, according to ESPN's playoff probabilities.
