Blackpool keeper opens up on concussion injury after signing new deal as season target outlined

Blackpool keeper Dan Grimshaw has opened up about the concussion injury he suffered at the end of last season for the first time.

The Seasiders stopper was speaking following the announcement that he has signed a new three-year-deal at Bloomfield Road with the option of a further year - bringing security to the goalkeeper department. Grimshaw had been subject of interest from another Championship club at the back end of the 2021/22 campaign, but that has now been put to bed after committing his long-term future to Blackpool.

Grimshaw was in top form before the injury suffered against Preston North End that brought a halt to his campaign with Chris Maxwell, himself only recently returning from injury at the time, taking his place. Blackpool were patient with Grimshaw during his recovery from the head injury, ensuring that all concussion protocols were followed - something that has taken an ever-important place in football in recent times with the increased research into dementia's links to football.

"It was frustrating what happened in the Preston game, which was obviously a game I was looking forward to. I just remember getting hit and thinking how because obviously I was getting to the ball first," Grimshaw told Tangerine TV.

"Then after that I was on the pitch and tried to open my eyes, I was just spinning and I didn't know where I was. It was just one of them where I had to take my time, the club did everything they had to do to get me back to now."
