Blackburn Rovers managerial candidate makes major future decision

It looks unlikely that Carlos Carvalhal will be taking over as manager of Blackburn Rovers.

That’s after Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda claimed that the 56-year-old has agreed a deal to take over as manager of Al Wahda in the UAE.

Following Tony Mowbray’s departure from Ewood Park after the expiration of his contract at the end of the season, Blackburn are still looking for a new manager to take charge of the club.

Carvalhal had looked to be a potential candidate for that role, with the former Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea having reportedly been interviewed for the role at Blackburn.

The 56-year-old is available as a free agent after leaving Braga in his native Portugal earlier this month.

But it seems he will not be heading to the Championship with Rovers, despite suggestions he was keen on a return to England.

According to this latest update, Carvalhal has agreed to become the new manager of Al Wahda, and is set to sign a deal with the club until next summer, despite previous expectations that any move would be a two-year deal.

❗️ACORDO TOTAL: Carlos Carvalhal será o novo treinador do @AlWahdaFCC até junho de 2023. Contrato de apenas um ano e não de dois, como estava inicialmente pensado. ✍
