Blackburn Rovers man set to return to starting XI against Nottingham Forest

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has confirmed that top scorer Ben Brereton Diaz will return to the starting line-up for his side’s clash with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

Brereton Diaz missed Rovers’ 1-0 win over Middlesbrough and goalless draw with Luton towards the end of January, as he was away on international duty with Chile.

The 22-year-old then came off the bench as a 60th minute susbtitute in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Swansea, having only returned from South America the Thursday before the game.

But with Brereton Diaz having now had a few more days to settle back into life in England, it seems he will be given the nod to face his former club from the start in midweek.

Providing an update on his top scorer’s availability ahead of that game, Mowbray was quoted by Blackburn’s official Twitter account as saying: “He’ll be playing.

“He travelled half-way round the world, it wasn’t right to put him in team after just getting off an aeroplane. He’s trained for a few days, he’s full of energy and ready to go.”
