Blackburn Rovers confirm new long-term deal for key ace

Blackburn Rovers have announced that midfielder Lewis Travis has committed his long-term future to the club.

The 24-year-old has featured 35 times for Rovers in the Championship – all but one of their league matches this campaign.

On Friday afternoon, a statement revealed that Travis had signed a new four-and-a-half year deal at Ewood Park.

“Rovers are delighted to announce that midfield star Lewis Travis has committed his long-term future to the club.” Rovers announced via their website.

“A born winner, with an innate desire and drive to succeed, we look forward to many more years of watching tough-tackling Trav in action.”

“Congratulations, Lewis!”

Travis made the move to Blackburn when still a youth player in 2015, leaving Tranmere Rovers for Ewood Park.

Having earned a professional deal with Rovers, he made his full debut for the club in the Checkatrade Trophy against Stoke City in 2017.

In recent seasons, Travis has become a vital part of the Rovers midfield, featuring 41 times in 2019-20 before an injury limited his contributions last season.

Travis, this season though, has bounced back well – captaining the side on a number of occasions this campaign.

He has also recently spoke about Rovers being the perfect place for him.

“I want to play in the Premier League one day and the platform we’ve got this year, and the chance we’ve got, I’m not sure we’ll get a better chance.” he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“I always say that wearing the captain’s armband when Darragh is out is something I like, I see myself as a loud voice on the pitch.

“I love it here and this is a really good chance to progress all of our careers.”

The Verdict

It’s great news for Blackburn that they’ve secured the long-term future of Lewis
