Blackburn Rovers 1-0 Swansea City: Late Daniel Ayala header earns hosts victory

Swansea City suffered yet more late heartache as Daniel Ayala headed home an 89th minute winner for Blackburn Rovers against Russell Martin's side.

Swansea controlled the opening half at Ewood Park and saw Ben Cabango and Jay Fulton go close to bulging the net.

Rovers improved in the second-half, with Ben Brereton Diaz having their best opening. But just as the points appeared destined to be shared, Blackburn snatched victory at the death as Ayala capitalised on more disappointing defending to dent Swansea's play-off hopes.

Head coach Martin made two changes to the side that started Wednesday night's 2-1 win over Blackpool, with Joe Allen and Joel Latibeaudiere coming in for Ollie Cooper and Matty Sorinola who both dropped to the bench - which included new goalkeeper Andreas Sondergaard.

The Swans' preparations for the match were far from ideal as their flight from south Wales to the North West of England on Friday afternoon was cancelled due to fog, meaning the squad and coaches made the arduous journey by bus.

There was little to choose between the sides early on as both teams had periods in possession without overly troubling their opponents.

But the first clear opening fell to the visitors in the 15th minute after Wales international Sorba Thomas - who was tracked by Swansea in the January transfer window - brought down Ryan Manning on the left flank. Manning's teasing free-kick into the Blackburn box was headed goalwards by Cabango who saw his effort crash off the crossbar, with Harry Darling heading the rebound straight at Aynsley Pears.
