Bielsa can finally axe “shocking” £22k-p/w Leeds dud by unleashing "astonishing" gem - opinion

With 23 Premier League games played so far this season, Leeds United have only managed to win five, draw eight and lose 10, placing them in 15th place in the table with 23 points on the board.

As well as their spotty run of results, their goalscoring form has been rather inconsistent as well with just 27 goals scored, which is much lower than the 40 they managed to score at this stage of the campaign last season.

One player that has done very little in front of goal for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this season is Tyler Roberts, who has scored just one goal and provided one assist in 21 league appearances this season.

Despite not starting any of Leeds’ three previous league games, Bielsa has still turned to the Welshman on two occasions against Newcastle United and Everton to add an attacking threat, but to no avail.

With that in mind, it could be time for the Argentine to turn to another attacking talent in his squad rather than Roberts, whose performances have been described as “shocking” in the past by Gabby Agbonlahor, for the time being.

Even though he’s scored the same number of goals as the Welsh international this season, Joe Gelhardt has played significantly fewer minutes than him this season in the league but still managed to rack up a higher overall performance rating according to WhoScored and provide three assists, which suggests that he is better suited to playing in the top flight than Roberts.

Having been an unused substitute for Leeds’ two previous league games despite scoring one goal and providing two assists in his five previous league appearances, now could be the time for Bielsa to give the 19-year-old, who has been described as “astonishing” in the past by Adrian Durham, a consistent run in the team to see
