Best nutmeg ever? Themba Zwane apologised after humiliating opponent in 2018

Themba Zwane is responsible for arguably the most humiliating nutmeg ever seen in football.

Zwane is a name that European football fans may not be familiar with.

The attacking midfielder, now 33, made his debut for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2011.

He has spent his whole career with Bafana ba Style and has played over 300 times for the club over the past 11 years.

Zwane is a technically proficient player who possesses a number of tricks.

Sibusiso Mbonani found out the hard way in Polokwane City’s clash with Sundowns back in 2018.

Mbonani and Zwane found themselves in an ongoing battle in the Premier Soccer League clash. Mbonani even told his opponent during the match: ‘I am going to get you’.

Zwane then proceeded to humiliate the Polokwane City defender with an incredible piece of skill.

Zwane picked up the ball inside the box and was under a lot of pressure from Mbonani.

Mbonani dived in to try and get the ball, but that proved to be a bad decision.

Zwane put the ball through his legs with some delicious skill. Mbonani’s head then hit the ground as his opponent made his way into the box.

The video has gone viral on social media once again and it really is quite something.

Zwane felt the need to apologise directly to his opponent after the match.

“I did not mean to embarrass him but he came running at me at full speed and his brakes failed at a crucial moment,” he said, per Times Live.

“I had no choice but to do what I did because I wanted to create space for myself. After the game I went to him to say sorry‚ and he accepted my apology.”

Sundowns went on to win the match 2-0 but Zwane was disappointed he did not find a teammate after beating Mbonani.

“I was very disappointed
