Best goal in 2022? Palmeiras' Wesley goes viral for stunner vs Botafogo

Wesley Ribeiro Silva is not a name most football fans will recognise.

The 23-year-old winger has spent the majority of his young career with Palmeiras, aside from a brief loan spell at fellow Brazilian club Vitoria in 2019.

But Wesley’s name is all over social media right now after he scored a quite incredible goal in a recent match against Botafogo.

Palmeiras, who’re currently second in the Brazilian Serie A table with just one defeat in 10 games, beat Botafogo 4-0 on home soil on Thursday evening.

Striker Rony netted two of the goals in the first half, with Gustavo Scarpa bagging the other in the opening 45 minutes of play.

Palmeiras fans then had to wait until the 87th minute to watch the net bulge again, but it was certainly worth the wait.

Wesley decided to bring out the tricks on the edge of the Botafogo penalty area. He performed eight head-spinning stepovers, before cutting inside onto his right peg.

The winger then took aim and fired the ball into the far corner, the ball so perfectly placed that the goalkeeper had no opportunity to even make an attempt at a save.
