Belgian Pro League referee was gutted after mistake in Union Saint-Gilloise vs STV

Being a football referee is extremely tough.

It’s almost impossible to referee a game without making at least one mistake, big or small.

And when an error is made by an official, they are usually subject to a plethora of abuse from fans.

But it’s important to remember that officials are only human. They don’t want to make errors during a game.

On the most part, no one is more disappointed than a referee themselves when a mistake has been made.

And Bert Put showed that this weekend.

Put was the man in charge for the Belgian Pro League clash between Union Saint-Gilloise and STVV on Sunday afternoon.

In the 28th minute, STVV’s Aboubakary Koita drove at the home side’s backline but was wiped out by a defender.

The ball somehow managed to find its way through to Daichi Hayashi and he found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

However, Put blew his whistle to give a foul.

He almost immediately realised his mistake when he saw Hayashi through on goal. His despair was plain to see as he looked up to the sky and put his hands on his head.
