Beijing 2022: Eileen Gu grabs another gold

China's 'Snow Princess' Eileen Gu sealed her second gold medal of the Beijing Winter Olympics in the women's freestyle halfpipe in Zhangjiakou.

Gu added to her Big Air gold and slopestyle silver with a second run score of 95.25, which proved enough to shunt Canadian duo Cassie Sharpe and Rachael Karker into second and third places respectively.

The US-born 18-year-old, who has become the popular face of the Beijing Games, was in full command of the contest from the beginning, soaring above the icy pipe higher than any other skier as she nailed back-to-back 900s with advanced mid-air grabs.

"It has changed my life for ever," said Gu. "It has been two straight weeks of the most intense highs and lows I've ever experienced in my life.

"I’m so honoured to be here, and I’m even more honoured by this platform that I’ve been given to be able to spread this message and inspire young girls through my own passion for the sport and to be able hopefully to spread the sport to people that might not have heard of it before."

Breaking down in tears, Gu told reporters her victory was the result of years of hard work where she juggled hours of daily training with her career as a model and student.

"It's like letting out a deep breath," Gu said. "I feel exhausted, from opening ceremony to today I've been skiing every day so I'm really tired but I feel at peace, I feel grateful, I feel passionate and I feel proud."
