Beijing 2022: Arbez suffers giant slalom disappointment

Ireland's Tess Arbez crashed out in her first run in the women's giant slalom event at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games on Monday morning.

Arbez, who finished 38th in the event in Pyeongchang back in 2018, suffered disappointment at the National Alpine Skiing Centre in Yanqing. She will compete in the slalom on Wednesday.

It was a challenging day for all competitors on the course named 'Ice River', with defending champion Mikaela Shiffrin's defence of her Winter Olympic title lasting just a few seconds.

Later today Elsa Desmond competes in the luge [first run between 11.30am and 1.15pm Irish time].

It's the first time Ireland will have a luge athlete in the Olympics. Desmond set up the Irish Luge Federation herself in order to compete for Ireland.
