Bears ready to challenge on all fronts as they share a message with members

Warwickshire are looking to fire on all cylinders as the curtain on the 2022 cricket season gets ready to rise.

The Bears could scarcely have enjoyed a more successful season in ‘21, when they lifted both the County Championship title and the Bob Willis Trophy, the latter in that one-off red-ball game at Lord’s against Lancashire.

The first ever Birmingham Phoenix team reached the final of the inaugural Hundred, and though the Birmingham Bears experienced a rather inconsistent campaign, they posted a respectable quarter final finish in the T20 Blast - they’ll want a return to Edgbaston for Finals Day this year, though.

The Bears, who bid farewell to the retiring Tim Bresnan but who welcome Alex Davies into their ranks, will hope to have Olly Stone back from injury in the near future and they’ll of course be able to call upon Carlos ‘Ricky’ Brathwaite, who returns to captain the side in the T20.

Ahead of the new season, which kicks off for the Bears and the defence of their County Championship title against Surrey on home soil on April 7, the senior figures at the club have addressed the fanbase, who were able to return to Edgbaston last year after the 2020 season was played out behind closed doors.

“It’s been a long wait but our defence of the LV= Insurance County Championship is about to begin,” writes chief executive Stuart Cain. “Given the work that has been undertaken on and off the field over the close season, it’s seems like an age ago since Will Rhodes made that defining catch off Liam Norwell to secure our eighth County Championship.
