BCCI Secretary Jay Shah flat bats Ramiz Raja’s T20 quadrangular proposal

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has poured cold water on Ramiz Raja’s proposed annual T20I quadrangular.

Raja suggested that a series with India, Pakistan, Australia and England would draw huge interest.

The PCB Chairman tweeted: “I will propose to the ICC a Four Nations T20I Super Series involving Pakistan, India, Australia and England to be played every year,to be hosted on rotational basis by these four. A separate revenue model with profits to be shared on a percentage basis with all ICC members. I think we have a winner.”

Shah feels that it would be a short-term commercial initiative that would detract from the BCCI’s focus.

He said that the BCCI wanted to pour more energy into arranging bilateral Test series.

The India official also suggested that there should be less T20 International cricket.

“With the IPL window expanding and the ICC (global) events every year in the cycle, our primary responsibility is to safeguard bilateral cricket at home, with emphasis on test cricket,” Shah told Reuters.

“I am also looking forward to seeing cricket at the Olympics, as that will help the game grow.

“Expansion of the sport is a challenge that our game faces and we must prioritise it over any short-term commercial initiative.”

Shah would also reveal that a Women’s IPL would be coming soon.

“I want to assure you that BCCI is not only sincere but is taking all necessary steps to start a full-fledged women’s league similar to the IPL soon,” Shah saidl.

“The huge interest among fans and players towards the women’s T20 Challenge is an encouraging sign and we are all committed to making it happen.”

Shah was confident of staging the 10-team IPL in India later this year.
