BCCI announces election schedule

On Saturday, the BCCI-appointed electoral officer AK Joti issued a seven-page "notice of election schedule and call for full members (state associations) to file applications to nominate their respective representatives." A copy of the notice, which mentioned all the timelines of the election, was also put up on the Board's website. The deadline for members to file applications to nominate their representative is October 4 at 6 PM. The elections will be held here on October 18, and the results will also be declared on the same day.

The draft electoral roll will be released at 6pm on October 5, while the next two days have been kept for submission of objections to names in it. The scrutiny of nominated applicants will take place from 11am-3pm on October 13, and at 7pm on the same day, the list of valid candidates will be announced. The candidates can withdraw their nominations between 10am to 4pm on October 14.

On October 15, three days before the election, the list of contesting candidates will be announced. As per the notice, the BCCI elections will be held for "A. Five (05) posts of Office Bearers under Rule 6 of the BCCI Constitution: President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer; B.

One (01) Elective post of Member of the Apex Council under Rule 14 of the BCCI Constitution; C. Two (02) Elective posts of Members of the Governing Council under Rule 28 of the BCCI Constitution." By all indications, current BCCI secretary Jay Shah could be elected unopposed as the new president of the Board, but the Board could also opt for continuing with former India captain Sourav Ganguly as its chief.
