BBC Strictly fans confused as Claudia Winkleman apologises over Tony Adams' 'fruity language'

Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman apologised on Saturday night's live show after Tony Adams got excited over his best score of the series so far. In joyful scenes the Arsenal footballing icon cheered after he racked up 26 points out of a possible 40.

He scored higher than Will Mellor, one of the favourites to win the coveted Glitterball, with 23 points and singer Matt Goss who was at the bottom of the table in week four with 20 points. Tony, 56, ran around in circles, punched the air and boomed "come on!" after sharp-tongued judge Craig Revel Horwood told him his performance was "better."

He was thrilled over the judges positive feedback to his and professional dance partner Katya Jones' American Smooth to With A Little Help From My Friends by Joe Cocker. But as they climbed the stairs after the judges' comments, presenter Claudia was quick to say sorry to fans over "fruity language."

Claudia said: "I would like to apologise if there was anything fruity in the language." And Tony looked stunned as he asked: "Did I?"

Claudia replied: "No it's fine, it was excitable." But Tony told her: "Sorry." However Claudia insisted: "No don't be silly. Craig said 'better' it often gets us all going."

Confused fans took to Twitter to say they hadn't heard any swearing. @EastEnders_Plus asked: "Wait did Tony swear? #Strictly." @GhostyGirl55 tweeted: "I'm pretty sure Tony didn't swear...." And @PrincessPKaur asked: "What was the fruity language?? I’m loving Tony Adams."
