BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans ask 'is everyone forgetting' as they defend Jamie Borthwick

Some Strictly Come Dancing fans found themselves pointing out a 'forgotten' detail as they defended Jamie Borthwick's place on the show. The EastEnders actor was among the 15 celebrities to make their debut in the BBC Once dance contest on Saturday night (September 14).

The launch show of Strictly's 20th anniversary year aired on Saturday night (September 14) with plenty of colour, sparkle and fun. Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman returned to host the show and introduce the class of 2024 to the iconic ballroom for the first time.

And it was all about kicking off the 22nd series of Strictly with a bang - as well as discovering who in the celebrity line-up had been partnered with which professional dancer for the upcoming season.

During the programme, it was revealed that Jamie, who is famed for playing Jay Brown in BBC's EastEnders, is partnered with professional dancer Michelle Tsiakkas as she was given a celebrity dance partner for the first time since joining the show in 2022.

When Claudia asked Michelle about how she was feeling being partnered with a celebrity for the first time, Michelle answered: "It's a dream come true to finally be able to dance on that Strictly dance floor with a partner and what better partner than Jamie to dance with. I’m so happy!"

But during the reveal, Jamie was also asked about taking part in the Strictly Christmas special last year. He said: "That’s what swung me hook, line and sinker - I don’t quite know how I managed to win that, but this is a whole different ball game! I don’t think I can blag it for a whole thirteen weeks."
