BBC Sport pundit names three Newcastle United players in latest team of the week
BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has named three Newcastle United players in his latest team of the week.
The Magpies won for the fourth time in five matches as they defeated Brentford 2-0 in the capital thanks to goals from Joelinton and Joe Willock.
The two goal scorers, as well as centre back Fabian Schar, were the players to be awarded a place in the side with Newcastle now up to 14th in the Premier League.
With Brentford down to ten men inside just 11 minutes, both Joelinton and Willock were excellent in the centre of the park as Newcastle controlled much of proceedings.
Joelinton has now scored in both games against Brentford this season, while Willock has found the net in consecutive matches.
At the back, not only did Schar help the Magpies to a third clean sheet in five, but he also provided the assist for Willock’s goal with an excellent pass.
Here is Crooks’ justification behind each of the trio’s inclusion in the side.
“Another clean sheet for Newcastle and another excellent performance by the Magpies. It's been a long time since Fabian Schar has featured in my team of the week.
“However, after his brilliant intervention to set up Joe Willock's superb finish against Brentford I was compelled to include the Newcastle central defender.
“Not only did Schar find himself on the halfway line in open play after defending a corner in his own penalty area, but fought off a challenge, looked up and played the most exquisite ball for Willock to score. What is Eddie Howe doing at Newcastle?”
