BBC Holby City's David Ames says cast had 'no idea' show was ending

Fans of Holby City are set to be distraught tonight as the medical drama is coming to an end. The final ever episode of the BBC show will air on Tuesday night and marks the end of an era after 23-years running.

Actor David Ames, who has played surgeon Dominic Copeland at the Holby City hospital since 2013, appeared on Lorraine earlier today ahead of the programme drawing to a close tonight. The actor revealed that both he and his fellow cast members had 'absolutely no idea' that the show was going to end.

Sharing her fury for the show's exit, Lorraine said: "I'm really cross about this. I haven't come to terms with it yet, it is so sad." David then told Lorraine that the cast are slowly coming to terms with the news as it came as a shock to them too.

The actor, who described the Holby City 'family' as 'tightly run ship', told Lorraine that he and his fellow crew were clueless about the soap's finale.

"We had absolutely no idea. Absolutely none. I had a brief text chat with Russell T Davies about this and he said normally you hear a little rumbling somewhere or somebody will know something, but no one knew a thing," David said.

Lorraine viewers quickly picked up on David's name drop as he revealed he had been chatting to Russell, the screenwriter and TV producer of successful shows such as It's a Sin and Doctor Who. Holby City fans then took to social media to speculate that David's conversation with the producer may be a hint to his next TV venture.

"Lovely interview on Lorraine. #HoIbyCity Am only one who picked up on the fact that David Ames and Russell T Davies have been chatting? #DoctorWho," tweet Sara McCready.
