BBC Antiques Road Trip presenter speechless as £30 earrings make 'unthinkable' profit at auction

A presenter on BBC's Antique Road Trip was left 'speechless' after a pair of £30 earrings she bought made an 'unthinkable' profit at auction.

Presenter Catherine Southon this week went head to head with Izzie Balmer to find out who could make the most money by buying items and sending them to the auction house..

The stars headed to the coast of Cornwall in an attempt to hunt down some hidden treasures, ad Catherine was over the moon when she found a pair of teardrop earrings for £30.

In a teaser clip shared on Antiques Road Trip Twitter, Catherine’s pendant earrings got off to a flying start, says the Express.

The caption read: “Straight in at £220! Catherine’s £30 earrings and Art Nouveau pendant really jump-started this Roadtrip.

“What a profit for [Catherine]! Will [Izzie] be able to bridge the gap?”

In the clip, the narrator explained: “It’s the final lot of the day.”

“I just don’t think you can go wrong with this, I’m so excited for you,” Izzie commented.

“Thank you,” Catherine replied as the auctioneer began the bidding at £220.

Catherine exclaimed: “Yes! That’s brilliant. Yes! Oh, wonderful.”

When the bidding reached £260, Catherine remarked: “£260?

“I would be happy with £120. I would have been over the moon with £120.”

The bidding rose even higher to £280 causing Izzie to exclaim: “Oh my goodness.”

When the auctioneer brought the bidding to an end, Izzie gave Catherine a round of applause as she raked in a £250 profit.

“Oh thank you Izzie,” she said and the Bargain Hunt star replied: “That’s amazing.”

Catherine added the first day of the challenge on a high.
