Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel gives blunt response to question on Manchester United preparations

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel insists he is yet to turn focus onto Wednesday's Champions League opener against Manchester United.

The serial Bundesliga winners welcome United to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening as the 2023/2024 Champions League gets underway. Erik ten Hag's side learned of their difficult opening fixture earlier this month after being drawn in Group A alongside Bayern, FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

However, both sides have important league games to contend with over the weekend. Tuchel's side face a tricky test at home to Bayer Leverkusen - the only other team in the Bundesliga with a 100 per cent record - on Friday evening, and the German insists all focus is on that game.

"Every opponent has a different style," Tuchel said on Thursday. "Now we have to settle back into our own rhythm.

"Leverkusen have started very well, and they play with five at the back. Manchester United play quite differently, they have a different approach under Erik ten Hag with a back four.

"I’m not preparing for Bochum or United yet, though. My coaching staff have already done a lot of preparation but the full focus for now is on Leverkusen."

United also face a tricky home game as they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Old Trafford on Saturday, meaning they have a day less rest before travelling to Germany. Ten Hag will hope to have Mason Mount fit and ready for the clash, but will almost certainly be without Jadon Sancho after confirmation the winger would train alone amid an ongoing disciplinary issue.
