Bayer Leverkusen player gives update on his future amid Manchester United transfer links

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Exequiel Palacios has remained coy on his future in Germany amid links with Manchester United.

The Argentine has been a key member of Xabi Alonso's side as they ended their wait to become Bundesliga champions, winning the competition for the first time in their history.

Under the former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder, Leverkusen have transformed from relegation-threatened to champions in 18 months - as a result a number of his star players have been linked with moves away, including Palacios.

The former River Plate midfielder is said to have courted numerous suitors after a superb season for Die Werkself. The 25-year-old signed from River Plate in 2020 but has come to the fore during their title-winning campaign.

The 25-year-old steered clear of alerting some of Europe's elite, insisting he is happy at Leverkusen and hasn't looked into his future plans.

“Bayer Leverkusen met all my expectations,” he told reporters. “Here I was always able to develop more as a player. I enjoy being in Germany, I am very comfortable and happy.

“I don’t think about the future, then we’ll see where I’m going next.”

SportBILD reported in February that Palacios was among four transfer targets from recruitment chiefs at Old Trafford.

Although the future of manager Erik ten Hag remains uncertain following pressure over his position, United could have a busy summer as they look to transform their fortunes as they look set to miss out on qualification for the Champions League.
