Bavuma happy with new CEO appointment: 'It goes a long way when there's stability at the top'

Proteas ODI captain Temba Bavuma said the appointment of a full-time chief executive officer was music to their ears.

Pholetsi Moseki, who was acting in the position since December 2020 after former chief commercial officer Kugandrie Govender was suspended and subsequently dismissed, was on Wednesday formally unveiled in the permanent hot seat.

Moseki is CSA's first permanent CEO since Thabang Moroe's suspension in December 2019, from where the organisation had acting CEOs in Jacques Faul, Govender and Moseki.

Moseki had initially joined as the chief financial officer and has been credited for his understated work behind the scenes.

Bavuma hoped that the installation of a permanent CEO will bring a better change of fortunes for the organisation.

"That makes us very happy as players and people in the cricket system," Bavuma said.

"It goes a long way when there's stability at the top, especially in that position. We've been crying out for that position to be filled.

"We hope the filling of the position will imbue people with hope that things will become better, but as players, we are very happy."

With better clarity off the field, the Proteas will be expected to pick up where they left off from their successful conquest of India in their ODI series.

SA beat India 3-0, but Bavuma said a team like India made it easy for players to motivate themselves.

Bangladesh aren't India, but remain a tricky side, with Bavuma cautioning against any complacency.

"Our last series against India was quite a successful one and there were a lot of positives from that series," Bavuma said.

"Coming together after two months, it was important that we remind ourselves of those positives and the things we did well.
