Barcelona eye Chelsea man as ‘number one target’ – player ‘would love’ La Liga transfer

Barcelona see Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso as their ‘number one target’ to strengthen the left side of their defence, according to reports.

The Spanish left-back joined Chelsea in 2016 and has won the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and Champions League with the Blues.

Alonso came through the ranks at Real Madrid and was handed his La Liga debut in 2010, coming off the bench in the 90th minute of a 2-0 win at Racing Santander.

This is his only appearance in the Spanish top flight, and he has recently admitted that he would love a proper go at playing in his home country.

He told AS last month: “I would love to play in La Liga, all my life I have wanted to play and be here in Spain, but the circumstances have been different and not everything has depended on me. At the moment I am focused on this season and what has to be, will be.”

And according to Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), Alonso might get his chance with Barcelona reportedly interested in signing the 31-year-old this summer.

The same newspaper reported earlier this week that the left-back and Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta are ‘seduced by the idea’ of playing for the Blaugrana.
