Barcelona boss Xavi 'offered' chance to make unlikely Brentford transfer raid

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez could be in for a busy summer ahead as he tries to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The Catalan giants have had a mixed campaign and currently sit second in La Liga, 15 points behind already-crowned champions Real Madrid with four games to go.

After a disastrous start to the season, it was looking unlikely Barca would even qualify for the Champions League, but Xavi's arrival in November has helped to steady the ship. He has won 19 of his 34 matches in charge.

Xavi had to bolster his ranks in January, though, with the signings of Ferran Torres and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. The pair have helped Barca climb up the La Liga table, leaving them in a good position to finish in the top-four.

However, Barcelona are set to add to their squad in order to be more competitive next season. With the club still under some financial restrictions, they may have to try and bring in some bargain players instead.

Someone who has been linked with a move to the Nou Camp is Brentford midfielder Sergi Canos. The 25-year-old has been impressive for the Bees during their first-ever season in the Premier League.

He has scored twice and grabbed two assists in 30 league appearances this term, after previously playing almost 200 games in the Championship. Canos was at Barcelona until he was 16, before switching to Liverpool in 2013.
