Ball headed for imaging on injured left ankle

Point guard LaMelo Ball will miss the team's final preseason game Wednesday and is scheduled to undergo imaging on his sprained left ankle, the Charlotte Hornets announced Tuesday.

Ball came into the Hornets' facility on Tuesday for treatment, but the team has already ruled him out of their final tune-up against the Philadelphia 76ers.

INJURY UPDATE: @hornets HC Steve Clifford says LaMelo Ball came in to arena today for treatment, will not travel to Philadelphia for final preseason game. He will undergo imaging this afternoon and more updates will be provided as available.

Ball appeared to severely turn his left ankle on a drive to the basket after being inadvertently stepped on by Anthony Gill of the Washington Wizards.

He stayed down on the floor for several minutes before limping his way to the free throw line. After shooting both shots, he checked out of the game and headed straight for the locker room.

In 75 games last season as a sophomore, Ball averaged 20.1 points, 7.6 assists and 6.7 rebounds, making the All-Star team for the first time in his career.

He was selected No. 3 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft and made his debut the following December.
