'Baby AB' Dewald Brevis sanctioned by ICC for code of conduct breach
Star batter, Dewald Brevis, has fallen foul of the International Cricket Council (ICC) disciplinary code while playing for South Africa at the U19 Cricket World Cup.
Brevis was sanctioned by the ICC on Wednesday after a Level 1 ICC Code of Conduct breach during the semi-final playoff match against Sri Lanka earlier this week.
He was found to have broken Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel after showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during the encounter.
The incident occurred in the seventh over of South Africa’s innings after Brevis was dismissed LBW by Wanuja Sahan.
After he was given out, Brevis raised his bat to show he thought he had hit the ball.
He continued to shake his head on his way back to the pavilion while glancing at his bat.
As Brevis admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction of a reprimand proposed by tournament referee Phil Whitticase, a formal hearing was not necessary.
Brevis, however, will have one demerit point added to his disciplinary record.
South Africa play Bangladesh in a 7th/8th playoff match on Thursday at 15:00 (SA time).
