Azerbaijan GP: Mark Webber's high-pitch scream in reaction to Lewis Hamilton's 2021 error remains comedy gold

Formula 1 heads to the shores of the Caspian Sea this weekend and to a track that saw one of the more dramatic races of the 2021 season last year – which is saying something, of course.

The 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix saw incredible late drama as Max Verstappen was violently turfed out of the race thanks to a tyre blowout, which red flagged things and caused a standing restart with just a couple of laps to go.

Indeed, it was Sergio Perez in the other Red Bull that stood to profit as he inherited the lead whilst Lewis Hamilton was set to earn an important haul of points as he sat in second, with his title rival Verstappen now on his way from the circuit.

Over the pit radio before the restart, Hamilton cautioned that the season was a ‘marathon, not a sprint,’ and that suggested he’d be looking to ensure points were scored rather than taking an extra risk to take victory, but then things unravelled in the most dramatic of styles for the Briton.

Getting the better start off of the line at the restart, Hamilton looked good to lead into turn one ahead of Perez and seal a potentially massive victory, before uncharacteristically making a mistake that flicked his brake bias into a far from optimal setting, meaning he was locking up and heading straight on at a 90-degree left bend.

He’d thrown it away! And would end the race without points, with Perez going on to win for the first time as a Red Bull driver.
