Awoniyi snubs West Ham link, vows to fight for Nottingham’s shirt

Out-of-favour Super Eagles and Nottingham striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has debunked rumours that he is open to a possible move in the January transfer window after being linked to West Ham earlier in the week.

In an exclusive chat with the UK sports handle, Sportsboom, the former Union Berlin striker said he is determined to fight for his place at Forest despite being relegated to the bench.

Awoniyi reaffirmed his commitment to the club despite dropping to third place in the pecking order of strikers at the club, adding that he is bent on helping the club achieve its dreams of playing in Europe next season.

“Transfers are part of football, and there will always be speculation. But my focus is entirely on Nottingham Forest,” Awoniyi said, laughing off the rumours., “This is a team with a lot of potential, and I want to be here to help achieve something special.

“I’m not thinking about leaving, rather I’m thinking about how I can contribute more to the success of this club.”, he said

He added that he is not losing hope in his ability to rediscover his scoring form, adding that the support he’s received from the coaching staff, who have shown confidence in his abilities compels him to first for his shirt.

“I’ve spoken with the coaches, who’ve been very supportive. They see me as an important part of the squad, even if I’m not starting regularly.

“They’ve emphasised the importance of staying ready and being a team player. It’s reassuring to know that they value what I bring to the table, and it pushes me to keep giving my best.”, Awoniyi explained

It remains to be seen how Awoniyi intends to turn his fortune around and return to the starting eleven with Chris Wood, Morgan Gibbs, and Anthony Elanga firing on all cylinders.
