Awkward moment Chelsea's Saul meets Chilwell at Club World Cup

Saul Niguez hasn’t made the impression he would have liked since joining Chelsea in the summer.

The Spaniard, who arrived on loan from Atletico Madrid, hasn’t been a key member of Thomas Tuchel’s side, making just two starts in the Premier League.

Chelsea have the option to make Saul’s move permanent but at this moment in time that appears unlikely.

Competition for places at Stamford Bridge is fierce, with Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek also options for Tuchel in midfield.

Things have never really improved for Saul since he was subbed off on his debut against Aston Villa in September after just 45 minutes.

He was also subbed off at half-time in his second Premier League start – against Watford in December.

Chelsea’s cup adventures have provided Saul with some more minutes but there’s been little to get excited about in his limited game time.

When all is said and done, it’ll be interesting to hear what Saul has to say about his time in west London.

A clip of the midfielder interacting with his Chelsea teammates might go some way to explaining the situation.

Chelsea are in Abu Dhabi for the Club World Cup and the club released a video of Ben Chilwell, recovering from an injury, joining the rest of the squad.

In a clip that’s sparked a reaction from Chelsea supporters on social media, Saul is spotted waiting awkwardly to greet Chilwell while the left-back shares a moment with Reece James.
