'Avoid the area' warning in place after major oil spillage closes road
An 'avoid the area' warning was put in place after an oil spill closed a road in Tameside on Tuesday afternoon (October 1).
Police and fire crews were called to Quarry Rise and Quarry Street between Dukinfield and Stalybridge to reports of the major spillage. The road was later blocked in both directions by emergency services.
The cause of the oil spillage has not yet been confirmed by Tameside Council. The road was blocked off between High Street and Fir Tree Crescent at around 1.30pm while the spillage was cleaned up.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just before 1.30pm on Tuesday (October 1) two fire engines from Stalybridge and Hyde fire station attended an oil spill affecting Quarry Street and High Street in Stalybridge.
“Firefighters assisted Tameside Council and Greater Manchester Police in making the area safe and were in attendance for around 45 minutes.”
A post shared by GMP Tameside urged people to 'avoid the area until further notice'. The spillage was cleared up by around 3.30pm.
Tameside Council has been approached for a comment.
