Austrian GP: Lando Norris looking to build on positive Silverstone showing

Lando Norris says he’s hoping to keep making progress in the McLaren this weekend in Austria, with him earning a strong P6 at Silverstone last weekend.

The Briton has delivered when the car has been strong this season, and it certainly looked in decent shape last time out at the British Grand Prix.

Indeed, he qualified in 6th and then came home in the same position, though he felt as though he could have perhaps got even higher in the final classification.

Even so, he’s now heading to a circuit that he has recorded two podiums at already in his career in F1, and that will naturally give him confidence ahead of the second Sprint weekend of the season.

Speaking in McLaren’s Austrian GP preview piece, Norris had this to say:

“I’m really excited to be back in Spielberg for the Austrian Grand Prix. It’s a Sprint and it’s one of my favourites on the calendar so it’s shaping up to be a nice weekend. Whilst we may not necessarily be fighting for podiums like in the last two years, there is definitely an opportunity for some good points and to have some fun battles.

“It was great to see so many people in papaya this past weekend and I’m buzzing to see all the orange in the crowd this weekend clearly there supporting McLaren… There’s always a great atmosphere and I’m hoping to build on my solid performance at Silverstone. We do still have a lot of work to do but we keep pushing forward and we keep fighting.”

The racing in Silverstone was brilliant last weekend and if we can get similar levels of entertainment at the Red Bull Ring then everyone will be happy.

There’s no doubting that Lando is in good form and at one with the car, and when the MCL36 has been strong on a race weekend, he has got the very most out of it.
