Australian cricket legend Rod Marsh suffers serious heart attack during Queensland charity trip

Australian cricket great Rod Marsh is in a serious condition in hospital after suffering a heart attack on Thursday morning.

The 74-year-old was in Bundaberg, Queensland for a charity event with non-profit organisation Bulls Masters when the dramatic incident occurred.

He was taken to hospital by Bulls Masters officials John Glanville and David Hillier who have since been credited with saving his life.

Bulls Masters boss Jimmy Maher said Marsh, whose heart stopped beating for several minutes, would have died if not for quick thinking from the pair.

“John and Dave deserve so much credit because the doctor said if they had waited for an ambulance he would not have made it,’’ Maher told News Corp.

“The medical staff at the Bundaberg Hospital were wonderful. We are all shocked. It’s terrible.

“Rod landed (in Bundaberg) at 10.05am and rang me from the car at about 10.30.

“He said he could not wait to have a beer with me.

“Then soon (after) Dave rang me from the car and told me what had happened. It’s devastating.”

A decision must now be made on whether the former wicketkeeper will be relocated to Brisbane for surgery.

His family is currently rushing to Queensland to be by his side.
