Australia will be the next stop for Welsh legend Jamie Roberts

As he walks his dog Layla on the corner of Plasturton Gardens in the leafy Cardiff suburb of Pontcanna, Jamie Roberts - both literally and metaphorically - stands at another junction in his life.

He has been here before.

This time around, the former Wales centre is swapping the dank drizzle of Welsh winter for the soaring temperatures of Sydney.

Australia is the latest stop for the globe-trotting centre as he continues a glittering career which already taken pitstops in Cardiff, Paris, London, Bath and Cape Town.

Roberts has been and remains a fine player. He won 94 Wales caps and three with the British & Irish Lions, but his time in the sport has also always been about far more than just the rugby.

There have been parties with Daniel Craig, two live on-stage performances alongside the Manic Street Preachers, round-the-world travel, and also four degrees at the universities of Cardiff, Cardiff Metropolitan, Cambridge and Loughborough.

'I'm very fortunate the dream is still happening,' Roberts, now 35, told Sportsmail. 'God knows when and where it will finish. I've always had a plan in life whether it's playing here or doing a degree there. Now I'm at a point where I can enjoy life as it comes.' 

Family reasons lie behind Roberts' latest venture. His Australian-born fiancée Nicole returned to the southern hemisphere on Boxing Day with the couple's son Tom. The pair are expecting their second child in 2022
