Atlético Ottawa escape with 1-1 draw against Vancouver FC in home opener

It took seven minutes of stoppage time, but Atlético Ottawa were able to secure a draw against Vancouver FC in their home opener at TD Place.

Emiliano García scored his first Canadian Premier League goal in the 97th minute Sunday, allowing Atlético to escape with a 1-1 draw against the visitors.

After a scoreless opening half, Ottawa had a solid chance to take the lead in the second but failed to put a penalty kick in the back of the net.

Mohamed Amissi then scored on the counterattack to put Vancouver temporarily in front.

Atlético are now 1-1-2 after notching a win and two losses in three road games to kick off the season.

Vancouver collected their first point of the season with Sunday's draw, after losing their first three matches.
