Atlético Ottawa, Cavalry FC battle for North Star Cup in driving snow

It's been a stereotypically Canadian battle for the North Star Cup between Atlético Ottawa and Cavalry FC.

The two Canadian Premier League sides have been fighting the conditions in Ottawa as much as each other tonight, as the league final is taking place amid a mid-November snowstorm in the nation's capital.

The start of the game was delayed due to the snow. Crewmembers have been using snowblowers and shovels throughout the night to clear the lines at TD Place, with players occasionally pitching in to help.

Fans who've braved the Ottawa cold, meanwhile, have been warned to not hurl snowballs on the field.

The game is currently 1-1 after 90 minutes of play, with a long break expected to clear the field before extra time begins.

Cavalry FC got the scoring underway when Fraser Aird netted a penalty kick in the 32nd minute, but Atlético's David Rodriguez tied things up with a stunning bicycle kick a few minutes later.

Atlético Ottawa is attempting to win its first ever CPL final, while Cavalry FC is trying to repeat as league champions.
