Atletico Madrid defender dismisses Cristiano Ronaldo concern in Manchester United tie

Atletico Madrid star Stefan Savic has claimed that he is not worried by the threat that Cristiano Ronaldo may pose in the Champions League.

Ronaldo's Manchester United side travel to the Spanish capital for their last against an Atletico side that is likely to include the former Manchester City defender.

Savic, now 31 and a regular for Diego Simeone's side, however has insisted that the Portuguese star's threat is not a specific concern for his team.

Speaking to AS via Inside Futbol about the United tie, he said: "We are concerned. We know their virtues, they have very fast players on the wing and they have strikers who move well in the penalty box.

"We are aware that they are going to play that way and we are ready."

When asked specifically about Ronaldo, Savic was quick to deny that Atleti were worried, despite the 37-year-old's incredible record of scoring 25 goals against them in his club career so far — playing against them more than any other opponent.

"Especially not," Savic insisted.

"It’s always good to play against great champions but in the Champions League the players are of the highest level and that doesn’t change."

United go into the tie on the back of two straight victories, against Brighton and Leeds in the Premier League.

Meanwhile their hosts have lost two of their last five matches but most recently breezed past Osasuna 3-0 in La Liga.
