At 2022 Police Games, IGP insists strategic security advances internal security

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has described the just-concluded 13th biennial Police Games in Uyo, as a strategic internal security tool, which will advance cause of internal security by bringing the Police close to the people.

In his closing remarks at the Games, the IGP said new excellent sporting talents that will make national impact have been discovered through the games. He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting the Force, just as he also commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, for hosting the event successfully.

He said the games have prepared the Nigerian Police, which he described as the leading security agency in the country, for the forth-coming elections.

The IGP also added that the games have provided mental alertness, physical fitness and also ensured officers are combat ready to secure life and property. 

Governor Emmanuel, represented by his deputy, Moses Ekpo, said the Games, apart from engendering a healthy spirit of competition among the athletes, have also built team spirit and esprit-de-Corps among the officers and men of the Force.

In his remarks, Chairman/Sole Administrator of the Force Sport Planning Committee, AIG Hafiz Inuwa, said the 13th Biennial Police Games, courtesy of the IGP, have showcased its rich sporting tradition with discovery of budding stars with huge potentials.

He said the theme of this year’s Games, ‘Promoting Sporting Excellence towards Ensuring Fitness for Operational Exigencies and Combat Readiness,’ was well thought out.
