Aston Villa transfer target 'yet to begin' contract talks amid Man United interest

Reported Aston Villa transfer target Wilfred Ndidi has apparently "yet to begin talks" with Leicester City over a contract extension.

Steven Gerrard 's side have been linked with signing the defensive midfielder this summer to address that area of the squad, which is currently being filled by Douglas Luiz in the absence of Marvelous Nakamba through injury.

Ndidi is another option in the position after Villa saw a bid for Yves Bissouma turned down last month by Brighton and Hove Albion, who has less than eighteen months remaining on his own deal.

While, comparably, the Nigeria international's contract is set to expire in 2024, it is three-and-a-half years since the player put pen to paper on that six-year deal.

Reports in the player's homeland from Allnigeriasoccer.com claim that Leicester have "yet to begin talks" over extending that stay.

They also add that "it is understood that Ndidi has not been directly approached over a transfer" amid links to Villa, as well as Manchester United.

The 25-year-old remains a regular in the East Midlands and has travelled to Denmark for the second leg of Leicester's Europa Conference League knockout round play-off against Randers despite their 4-1 aggregate lead from last week.

Before that first leg, Ndidi spoke about his future at the club.

“At the moment, I am enjoying myself in Leicester," Ndidi said when asked whether he's settled.

"My family is here. My business degree (at DeMontfort University) is on hold. There was lockdown, and then my daughter was born. I am looking forward to it (continuing the business and management degree) maybe next year.”
