Aston Villa players 'praying for' teammate after Crystal Palace injury

Aston Villa players have been sending messages of support to injured teammate Ezri Konsa clear on social media after the defender was forced off with an injury against Crystal Palace.

Just seconds after half-time, the 24-year-old came off worse for wear after a collision with Palace centre-forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and required treatment from the Villa medical staff. Five minutes into the second half head coach Steven Gerrard was forced into the change as Calum Chambers replaced Konsa, who headed straight down the Villa Park tunnel.

Gerrard admitted in the post-match press conference that they are "concerned" about the player's knee issue. The boss also added that they would be "extremely surprised" if the defender is available to play again this season.

Konsa has since taken to social media to show appreciation to supporters for their well wishes. "Thank you for all the messages and support," the defender captioned a photo from the match that shows Villa's medics running onto the pitch to administer treatment. "Great atmosphere today. Last push next week."

Jacob Ramsey replied: "Praying for you bro," which was a message also shared by goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Ramsey's brother Aaron, who is currently on loan at Cheltenham Town, also replied with a praying emoji.

Youngsters Tommi O'Reilly and Lamare Bogarde also sent their prayers in this fashion, as did Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters. Fellow full-back Lucas Digne, Tim Iroegbunam and Marvelous Nakamba all also replied with love hearts to show their support, while on-loan Newcastle United defender Matt Targett wished the defender a "speedy recovery".
