Aston Villa: Gerrard could make brutal transfer decision on £22.5m star

Ezri Konsa leaving Aston Villa this summer would not come as a surprise to former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer.

The 24-year-old has been a regular in Villa’s back four over the past three seasons, but he could still move on in the next transfer window.

Konsa has featured in 22 Premier League matches this term, playing alongside England international Tyrone Mings for much of the campaign.

However, it was reported last month that the Midlands club are ready to listen to offers for Konsa at the end of the season as Steven Gerrard is planning to make significant changes to his playing staff.

The Villa boss has also made the decision in recent weeks to leave Konsa out of his starting XI. The defender has only played once in Villa’s last six matches, with Gerrard preferring Calum Chambers instead.

Villa had an interesting January transfer window as they brought in Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne and Chambers, while also offloading Matt Targett and Anwar El Ghazi.

Palmer has suggested that Gerrard allowing Targett to leave highlights how he is willing to make big calls in order to try to take his team to the next level. He now thinks Konsa could follow Targett out the exit door.

When asked about Gerrard potentially selling Konsa, the pundit told GIVEMESPORT: “It wouldn’t be a shock because you’ve seen what he did with the left full-back who went to Newcastle, Targett. He’s been consistently very, very good for Aston Villa, but Steven Gerrard has his ideas of how he wants to play the game of football, and what he wants his players to do.”
