Aston Villa game postponed as Liverpool release statement

Aston Villa's home game against Liverpool, which was due to be played in mid-April, has been postponed.

The Premier League clash will now be rescheduled as Liverpool are due to play their FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Wembley on the weekend that the two teams were set to face-off. Jurgen Klopp's side advanced to the final four of the competition after seeing off Championship side Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground on Sunday.

A statement from Liverpool read: "The game at Villa Park was scheduled for a 5.30pm BST kick-off on Saturday April 16; however, the Reds’ progress to the Emirates FA Cup semi-finals means they will now have a fixture at Wembley that weekend.

"Confirmed details of a rearrangement for the away clash with Villa will be announced on Liverpoolfc.com in due course." The fixture was also due to be broadcasted live on Sky Sports, but will no longer be showed on Saturday, April 16.

It means that Villa will not play a fixture on that weekend, which comes after a trip to Wolves and a home game against Tottenham Hotspur. Steven Gerrard's men now have two games which need to be rescheduled from now until the final weekend of the campaign, which is nine weeks away.

Villa will have two home games against Burnley and Liverpool to play before visiting Manchester City on the final day of the season. They will travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, May 22.
