Aston Villa fans respond as Steven Gerrard completes unexpected fourth January transfer

Aston Villa fans have reacted to the shock signing of Calum Chambers.

The defender has joined from Arsenal, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract at Villa Park as Steven Gerrard continues to add to his squad.

The 27-year-old is Villa ’s fourth first-team signing of the January transfer window, following the arrivals of Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne and Robin Olsen.

Villa announced the signing on Thursday night with reports claiming that the defender has joined Villa on a free transfer with his contract at the Emirates Stadium running out at the end of the season.

Chambers' arrival comes after Manchester United recalled loanee Axel Tuanzebe from a season-long loan spell.

Gerrard was keen to add more depth to his defensive options in the window with the unexpected arrival doing just that.
