Aston Villa exit hasn’t gone to plan for Wesley

Wesley Moraes was loaned out to Club Brugge last summer in a bid to get more playing time, but his injury-laden stint was cut short and a move to Internacional followed in January. The 25-year-old’s fortunes haven’t fared much better in Brazil, however, with playing time continuing to be sporadic, so his temporary move away from Aston Villa isn’t going to plan.

Wesley made 6/30 appearances in all competitions for Brugge, amassing 105 minutes from a possible 2700. The Brazilian international scored just one goal on his return to the Jan Breydel Stadium and picked up more yellow cards (4). He featured in only 3/21 First Division A games due to injury problems, so Brugge opted to terminate the deal when the winter transfer window opened.

The 25-year-old joined Internacional a week after his return to Villa but has been handed 313 minutes of Brazilian Serie A football from a possible 990. Wesley has scored just one senior goal since January 2020 and can’t seem to stay fit to nail down a starting place, so his career isn’t going in the right direction.

Wesley will return to Villa Park in December and is likely to be offloaded in the winter transfer window unless he miraculously turns things around at Internacional.
