Aston Villa could make 'outstanding signing' in 'sensational' £67m star
Aston Villa signing Benfica striker Darwin Nunez this summer would be “outstanding”, says journalist Josh Holland.
The Uruguayan is attracting interest from several clubs after an excellent season in Portugal, with Villa being one of those outfits.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Nunez will leave Benfica in the upcoming transfer window and is valued at around €80m (£67m).
It is a large fee, but Benfica’s valuation comes as no surprise given the season that the 22-year-old is having. In 40 appearances, he has scored 34 goals, with 26 of those coming in the Portuguese league.
Regarding potential destinations, 90min claimed at the end of March that the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Villa had been in contact with the player’s representatives.
The Athletic, however, states that Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are currently the ones leading the race for Nunez’s signature.

Amid all of the interest in him, Holland thinks it would be quite some achievement if Villa managed to land Nunez this summer.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: “Bringing in players like Nunez would be outstanding. Can they do it? We don’t know, but it’d be a good talking topic if it happens.”
It seems unlikely. There is a lot of interest in the Uruguay international, who has been described as a “sensational talent”, and from some real heavyweights of European football.
Last month, The Telegraph reported that Newcastle United had turned their attention away from Nunez because they believe that he wants to join a Champions League team, so Villa are quite clearly in an unfavourable position.
