Asia Cup Hockey: India Beat Indonesia 16-0, Qualify For Super 4s

The Indian men's hockey team needed to win their last group match against Indonesia in the men's Asia Cup hockey tournament by a massive margin of 15 goals to advance to the Super 4s round and they ended up beating the opposition 16-0. The victory was enough for the Indian team to edge out arch rivals Pakistan on goal difference to qualify for the next round along with Japan.

Japan had beaten both India and Pakistan along with Indonesia.

India had drawn its opening game against Pakistan 1-1, before losing 2-5 to Japan.

This is a young Indian team in action, coached by former India captain Sardar Singh.

India were staring at an early exit when the team led Indonesia 6-0 at the end of the second quarter. The team though found a new gear altogether from the third quarter onwards and kept its feet on the accelerator as they hunted down the goal margin to qualify for the next round.

Promoted

Dipsan Tirkey was the star with 4 goals, Sudev scored a hat-trick, while Selvam, Pawan and the veteran SV Sunil scored a brace in what was a magnificent a triumph.

This is the biggest win for any team in this edition of the men's Asia Cup. There are three slots up for grab for the upcoming 2023 FIH World Cup from this tournament. India have already qualified by virtue of being the hosts.
